INFORMATION LETTER

Dear colleagues,

Khortytsia National Educational Rehabilitation Academy (Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine) and the Ukrainian School of Archetypes (Kyiv, Ukraine) on behalf of the TMS 2022 International Organizing Committee invite teachers and students of educational, professional and scientific-educational levels of Ukrainian and French universities and educational research centers of other countries specializing in research on archetypal issues of public administration, archetypes of social institutions and everyday life, to participate in the annual events of the Ukrainian School of Archetypes: TMS 2022: XIII International Theoretical and Methodological Seminar and X International Competition for Young Scientists, which will take place on June 23-25, 2022 in Zaporizhzhia on the theme: “Archetypes and Public Administration: From Imaginary to Technologies of Postmodern Modernity”.

Organizers of the TMS 2022. The current scientific events for the fifth year in a row will be held in co-organization with representatives of the French School of Archetypes: the Center for the Study of Modern and Everyday Life and the LERSEM-IRSA EA4584 Laboratory of Sociology of the Paul-Valéry University, Montpellier 3; on the Ukrainian side, the Ukrainian Academy of Technology, the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the All-Ukrainian Assembly of Doctors of Science in Public Administration, the Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences, and the Ukrainian Society for Social Innovation are also co-organizers.

The TMS 2022 software framework will determine the research issues of public administration, social institutions and postmodern everyday life, which will be considered in the range from the theory of the imaginary to technologies of postmodern modernity.

The purpose of the TMS 2022: To unite interdisciplinary efforts of representatives of social and humanitarian knowledge around solving theoretical and practical problems of public administration, social institutions and postmodern modernity based on the Gilbert Durand methodology.

Experts say that postmodernism, which is increasingly replacing modernity and fully embraces the world space, plunges us into the abyss of uncertainty that keeps modernity in its current state of crisis. This, in particular, it puts the issue of returning to the tradition that focuses our attention on the past on the agenda of the Euro-Atlantic countries. At the same time, tradition fills postmodern modernity with the spirit of radical renewal, because the novelty in tradition is not temporal but ontological. It is not connected with the gradual improvement of something transient, but with the assertion of absolute perfection.

Therefore, tradition by virtue of its self-inheritance belongs more to the present than to the archaic past or even to the future that has not yet been constructed. This is not a dried-up heritage passed down from generation to generation along the historical ‘horizontal’. Through tradition, a man tries to comprehend the infinite space, all the fullness and diversity of ways of understanding and cognition of the existence of ancient man, and therefore: looking for himself/herself in the present. Therefore, the tradition that originates from the ‘vertical’. In fact, the archetypal one, which is known intuitively and outside of any layer of time, does not belong to the past, but to eternity.

Thus, in the context of this year’s scientific format TMS 2022, the following questions are quite relevant

  • Does postmodernism with its total deconstruction become an era of “destruction of traditions”?
  • Does postmodernism become a time of renewed manifestation of traditions, or on the contrary?
  • How do traditions and innovations relate?
  • What sociocultural factors determine the success of the implementation of an innovative life trajectory in the postmodern era?
  • How do archetypes determine the actualization of human psychosocial resources at different stages of ontogenesis?
  • Is it possible to use the deep emotional and motivational potential of archetypes in the educational process, directing the socialization of children and youth to socially significant models and worldviews of individual creativity?
  • Do myths and superstitions rule the modern world?
  • Is it necessary and how to “revive”/’restore’ traditions in the Postmodern Era?
  • What are the mental, cultural and customary features of the communities and the historical experience of the people in the postmodern era?
  • How to combine traditional and innovative mechanisms of cooperation and unity of people?
  • What is the “archive” of the modern: postmodern era?
  • Who, after all, are the subjects who care about the fate of modern traditions: the postmodern world?

These and other problematic issues will determine the space for understanding the TMS 2022 next topic. The organizers hope that this goal will be well served by the ideas of Gilbert Durand, including his key work “Anthropological Structures of the Imaginary”, a French-Ukrainian translation of which was made by the Ukrainian School of Archetypes (USA) in late 2021 in cooperation with the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Publishing House. This translation can be ordered at
